Margaret
Shapiro received her MSW from the University of Chicago and
received post graduate training at Cambridge Hospital and
Mass Mental Health Center in Boston and at the Council for
Relationships. She is a licensed Clinical Social Worker in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, as well as an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. Before moving to Philadelphia
she was Director of Social Work and Family Work at two Harvard
teaching hospitals. She has been a practicing psychotherapist
for 25 years.
She is the founding Director of the Couples
Communication Program at CFR and currently sees clients at
the University City Office and at Wynnewood. She is presently
Co-Director of the Council
for Dialogue, a new venture aimed at working with businesses
and non-profits to promote conversations among staff about
difficult and/or controversial subjects. Her specialties include
working with communication issues, inter-ethnic couples, couples
with concerns about how they discuss and manage finances,
pre-marital couples, step-families, and parents experiencing
difficulties with adult children. She also works with individuals.
She has presented and written widely about the impact of financial
issues on couples of all ages.
She maintains a full time practice including evening hours
Mon-Thurs, and welcomes phone or e-mail introductory conversations.
