Sabitha Pillai-Friedman, PhD, LSWDr. Pillai-Friedman received her Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research at Bryn Mawr College. She was trained in family therapy at the Family Institute of Philadelphia and in couples therapy and sex therapy at the Council for Relationships. Dr. Pillai-Friedman has specialized training in PAIRS® (Practical Application of Intimate Relationship Skills) and in PREPARE/ENRICH, a program developed to work effectively with couples preparing to make a commitment and those who are in committed relationships. She has been a psychotherapist for nearly eighteen years and she has a wealth of experience working with individuals and couples in all stages of the life cycle. 

She has taught graduate level courses at the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research at Bryn Mawr College and at the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice. She currently teaches in the Post graduate Certificate Program at the Council for Relationships and at the Joint CFR/Jefferson Couple and Family Therapy Masters' Program where she is also the director of supervision. 

She has specialized training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). She uses EMDR to treat anxiety, trauma and sexual difficulties. 

Her areas of specialty include couples communication, sex therapy, post partum adjustment of couples, aging, dual-career relationships, cross-cultural and interfaith relationships. She works effectively with heterosexual and gay couples. 

Dr. Pillai-Friedman is a clinical member of AASECT (American Association of Sex Educators Counselors and Therapists) and a certified sex therapist. As a member of the clinical team at the Institute of Sex Therapy, Dr. Pillai-Friedman assesses and treats a range of sexual difficulties. She provides a safe and supportive environment to explore concerns about sexual function and offer effective treatment strategies. Dr. Pillai-Friedman offers proven strategies to rekindle desire in long-term relationships. 

She is an engaging public speaker and has been interviewed on NPR, CN 8 and NBC. She frequently presents professional papers in national and international conferences.
