She completed a training analysis in individual and group
psychotherapy with a psychoanalytically trained New York psychiatrist
as part of her training at Blanton-Peale. She has also completed

Dr. Lavengood has a deep interest in the connection between
our emotional lives and our spiritual journeys. She believes
that one's belief systems and spiritual practices are significant
contributors to our healing and growth in our lifetimes. She
directed a pastoral counseling center, FRMH, Mid-Westchester
Counseling Center, in Tarrytown, NY from 1992-1996 and is
currently the part-time Vicar of St. Mary's Episcopal Church,
Clementon, NJ. Her practice has included men and women who
have endured emotional and physical abuse. One group she led
at FRMH was a spiritual and emotional support group for female
childhood survivors of sexual abuse. Dr. Lavengood led another
women's spiritual and emotional support group that explored
Biblical texts from the Old and New Testaments with relation
to roles, beliefs, and cultural expectations of women in the
Christian community. She was an adjunct lecturer and faculty
member of the Center for Christian Spirituality at General
Theological Seminary, NY (1986-89) and a faculty member of
the Pastoral Studies Program at Blanton-Peale (1989-92).
Dr. Lavengood is also committed to working with couples who
want to integrate their spiritual values and beliefs into
their therapy. She is interested in continuing her in-depth
counseling with individuals and couples struggling with anxiety,
depression, trauma, and issues involving life transitions
(such as parenting, marriage, illness, professional transitions,
aging and grief).
